Sunday School plans for this fall

8/19/2020

As you all know, we are in a time of great uncertainty. We are uncertain about school, sports seasons, and holiday plans. The fall calendar is suspiciously blank—a big question mark. In times like these, we must remember that despite the uncertainty in our lives, the promises of God remain. Jesus Christ continues to be the solid rock on which we stand when everything else is sinking sand.

Christ’s church is more than just a building—the church is all of us, even when we are physically apart. Even so, there are many challenges to consider at this time, whether we worship online or in-person.

You are invited back to in-person worship and Sunday School this fall, with some changes. We will be worshipping outside beginning Sunday, September 13th through the end of October. Studies have shown that being outdoors significantly reduces the spread of COVID-19, which enables us to meet safely while the weather is nice. We will have one drive-in service at 9:30 a.m. that will include a children’s message and Sunday School, as follows:

  • Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Families are together in or around their cars in the parking lot (may bring lawn-chairs, blankets, etc.).
  • After the opening music, children will be invited up for an interactive sermon. They will then be dismissed to outdoor Sunday School. Parents can either accompany their kids or stay in their cars and listen to the sermon.
  • Children will return to their cars prior to communion. Families will commune together.
  • The service will end around 10:30 a.m.

As we reach the end of October, we will reassess the situation and make plans for the winter. If you are interested in attending this fall session, please register here. We also understand if you are concerned about returning, for whatever reason. If you would like to participate in children’s ministry this year, but not in-person, please indicate that on your registration and we will provide the activities for you to do at home (worship will be posted online as well!).

We urge you to continue cultivating faith practices at home, such as reading Scripture, doing acts of service, and praying together as a family. If any needs arise, you are welcome to reach out. The church is here to support you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

God’s peace be with you,

Pastor Kristina Hill and Pastor Gary Guptill
