Prior to the arrival of COVID-19, leaders at Glen Cary applied for a Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Neighborhood Grant through Anoka County for the purpose of building a community garden on our campus. Even though we are limited in our contact with one another, the project continues to move forward under the leadership of former parish nurse, Cindy Winandy.
The goal of the garden is to provide fresh, nutritious produce and gardening opportunities for those who otherwise lack access. For example, seniors in our community who have moved into facilities may lack the space to plant a garden; we will have standing garden beds for those who are no longer able to kneel in the dirt. Lower-income people might lack the resources to get a garden started. Others may lack the knowledge or experience. The Community Garden is welcome to all who want to plant, tend, harvest, and eat the produce.
Spread the news! This is a ministry that seeks to "extend God's grace to all." If you would like to volunteer with this project or seek more information, please contact Pastor Kristina.
