Worship at Glen Cary
Our worship schedule is currently in flux due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please visit our homepage and online blog for the most up to date information.
Traditional Service at 8:30 a.m.
Our first service of the day comes out of the Lutheran Book of Worship, and includes hymns, Scripture, preaching, confession, forgiveness, offering, baptism, and communion. Holy Communion is celebrated every week. Music is mostly played on the organ.
Family Worship at 9: 45 a.m.
This family-oriented service is a half-hour in length and contains all the main elements of Lutheran worship in creative and interactive ways. The goal is to teach worship and faith formation skills through participation. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. All ages are welcome! This service is followed by a half hour of Sunday School for kids ages preschool through fourth grade. See Children's Ministry for more information.
Contemporary Service at 10:45 a.m.
This service follows the traditional liturgy, but is led by our worship band. The song choices extend beyond the hymnal and include modern worship styles. Holy Communion is celebrated every week.
Weekly Scripture Readings
At Glen Cary, we follow the Narrative Lectionary. This is a four-year cycle that covers the entire biblical story annually-- beginning with Genesis in September and ending with the early church in May! To see what we are reading this week, click here.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is the gift of God's presence, love, and forgiveness. It is given for you! Everyone is welcome to come and receive, regardless of age, denomination, or whether you consider yourself a church-goer at all. Children can receive the elements or a blessing, at their parents' discretion. If you are interested in learning more, classes are held during Lent and First Communion is celebrated at the Maundy Thursday service.
During the service, ushers will direct you to the communion rail to receive the elements. Many people kneel, but it is not necessary, especially if you have mobility issues. If you are unable to come up to the rail, let your usher know, and communion can be brought to you at your seat.
