SERVING TOGETHER
2020
Intergenerational mission experience:
a serving and learning trip for all ages!* Saturday, June 27th - Friday, July 2nd Rapid City, South Dakota *The tradition at Glen Cary has been youth mission trips. We don’t want to diminish the strength of that experience for the youth who have been on those trips. If youth are excited about serving, but their family can’t attend, there will be designated chaperones and transportation for this part of the experience. Contact Carrie Stiles at stiles.carrie@hotmail.com with questions and for registration information. |
WHERE: Rapid City, SD
Rapid City, South Dakota, is nestled into the Black Hills, in the shadow of Mount Rushmore. It also shares a border with the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. We will be spending time with both the Rapid City and Lakota communities.
WHAT WILL WE DO:
We will be spending three days learning about the community of Rapid City. We will also take time to serve and learn about the Lakota people. Serving and learning in these communities might include working with the elderly, helping with housing improvements, and local non-profit organizations.
ACTIVITIES IN RAPID CITY:
There will be planned activities on Sunday, June 28 and Thursday, July 1. We will serve together on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Activities and worship will happen in the evenings. Some activities could be Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, a visit to Custer, etc.
WHERE WE WILL TRAVEL:
Families will travel in their own vehicle. We will take vans for youth sixth grade and older who want to attend without family. We will be staying at a church in Rapid City.
PAYMENTS:
Final Payment: (minus any fundraising dollars) is due on June 1. This includes lodging and food in Rapid City. You will be responsible for food on the way out and back and activities before and after.
It is our goal that everyone who wants to attend has that opportunity. Scholarships are available. Talk to Carrie about how to apply.
FUNDRAISING:
At Glen Cary, we try to offer opportunities to raise money to help defray the cost of the trip. The fundraisers are meant to be a way to engage with the congregation and to build relationships between those going on the trip. To receive fundraising money, participants must attend the majority of the fundraisers and work together for the common good.
The goals of fundraising are to:
Some of the past fundraising opportunities have been pancake breakfasts, stock sales, and making pizza on Super Bowl week-end. Please contact Carrie for more information!
