9th Grade Confirmation
2019-2020
Confirmation: Exploring what I Believe
Confirmation is a major milestone in our Journey of Faith.
At Glen Cary Lutheran confirmation is designed to be a meaningful and experiential learning experience. The goal is to provide a safe place for youth to learn about the scriptures, Jesus and explore their own faith journey in a setting that will surround them with adult rolemodels, leaders, and fellow students who can help them on this journey.
Please carefully, and prayerfully, examine the expectations. We are asking all parents to find time to be involved in confirmation at Glen Cary. Prayerfully think about the ways you can contribute the life of Glen Cary.
Confirmation is a voluntary program.
It is not a sacrament in the Lutheran community and is for those who wish to learn more about their faith and their church. What is essential is that students get involved! We encourage students to discuss, think, ask questions, share ideas, pray, and play.
9th Grade Topics:
The goal this year is to provide students with different experiences and opportunities to talk about faith, what others faiths believe and how they worship, and what makes us Lutheran. Then we will move into helping students hone-in on what they believe and how they fit into the church and Glen Cary. This will cumulate with the confirmation service in the spring.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT KICKOFF
September 11th
Worship at 6:30 p.m.
Gather in Youth Room for Root Beer Floats 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Parent and Student Orientation 8:00 p.m. *BRING CALENDARS!*

• Worship notes on church visits
• Participate in servant events

Servant Events
Students are asked to serve their church through serving at the Harvest Festival, Pancake Breakfasts and/or the Easter Breakfast. Living in community and working together are key element of our life as a Christian.
Confirmation Retreats
9th graders have two retreats. There will be a retreat in the winter with all the confirmation students. This is a great chance for ninth graders to be leaders and share with the younger students. The MANDATORY 9th GRADE RETREAT to prepare for Confirmation Sunday is in the spring. This retreat is where what they have learned over the years will come together. Students will discuss what the confirmation service means and work on their faith statements.
Worship Reflections
You will take worship notes at the churches we visit for discussion about the different worship styles. You also need to make up any worship reflections you didn’t finish last year. If you can’t attend one of your worship visits, you will have to make it up with your family at another time.
Record Keeping
In the box in the sanctuary, please take time to turn in and keep track of the worship notes, church visits, and community connections.
Confirmation Fee
This year the confirmation fee is $75, to be collected in the fall. This fee covers the events through the end of the year, retreat, the Celebration Dinner and Confirmation Sunday. Please contact Carrie with any questions or concerns.
