Lenten Worship on Wednesday
 Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Fourth Wednesday in Lent
6:06 p.m.

The mid-week Lenten series, "The Day the Music Died," will continue the drama of Jesus' Passion (his suffering and death) from Mark's Gospel.   Pastor Paul will reflect on "Those Who Shout Loudest" (Jesus, Barabbas, and Pilate) in his mid-week sermon from Mark 15:1-15.  The Glen Cary Worship Band will be the music leaders as they use the beloved Holden Evening Prayer Service as our worship format.

Come join us for Soup Supper and Fellowship before worship.  Serving begins at 5:15.  Don't forget to sign-up to share your favorite soup during Soup Suppers.

 Fourth Sunday in Lent

Pastor Jeff will be using the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:1-3, 11-32) to describe Jesus' "Storytelling" on His journey to the cross.  This best known of all stories tells us of the great and unconditional love of God.  The musical offerings will be the Glen Cary Choir, singing "When I Survey the Wonderful Cross," at 9:00, while newSpirit signs "The Power of Your Love" at 10:30.  Additionally, Wellspring will be singing the beautiful "Surely the Presence of the Lord" at the 9:00 service.  Pastor Denny will be the worship leader and officiate at Holy Communion.
Coming Alive!

A Special Sunday Afternoon Lenten Service

Sunday, March 14, 2010
4:00 p.m.

Our Worship Life Pastor, Reverend JaneAnn Settergren, is preparing a special series of Lenten services for Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. called "Coming Alive." The worship themes come from watching of the contemporary movie "Chocolat".  A driving question in this movie is "How Is Lent Rightly Observed," and that was the theme of the first service. The theme for this fourth "Coming Alive" worship will be "A New Look at the Last Supper and Betrayal."  Pastor JaneAnn, along with Connie Jeffers, will lead the music of Taize in the musical portion of the service. Special chocolate candies and desserts will be served at the conclusion of each service.

Ministry of the Month - March
MINNESOTA FOOD SHARE

Every year for more than a quarter century, food shelves throughout the state have relied on Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign for support as they bring hope to those struggling to put food on the table.

This year, the campaign is calling for everyone to “be a superhero in the Minnesota fight against hunger.”  With support from civic groups, businesses, congregations, schools and individuals, Minnesota FoodShare is working to raise 12 million combined pounds and dollars. This represents a record goal for the March Campaign because the need at the 300 food shelves around the state is sobering:

In 2009 alone, there were almost 3 million food shelf visits statewide and 61 million pounds of food was distributed to Minnesota families by food shelves.

• In 2009, almost 14 percent of households in Minnesota were unable to afford enough food.

• A growing number of Minnesotans – many working and living in the suburbs and from middle-class backgrounds – are turning to food shelves for help.

Glen Cary is collecting for N.A.C.E. (North Anoka County Emergency) Foodshelf, with a different emphasis each week during March.  Watch the tub overflow!!!

March 7  Non-perishable BREAKFAST  Items

March 14 Canned goods, household products: paper towels, laundry soap, dish soap, etc.

March 21  Hygiene products for the family (soap, shampoo, razors, toothbrushes &
toothpaste, personal products  - and take home a bag to bring back next Sunday!

March 28   Needed items listed on the bags distributed last week

And, if you can help deliver the food and other items to the food shelf after each Sunday, or if you are interested in volunteering at the food shelf in East Bethel, please contact Connie Jeffers.
